This work represents on the most complete reference books ever compiled. The length and nature of the material make is hard to describe. It is a veritable mountain of information. The original Texas Almanac was published by Willard Richadson in Galveston, Texas, from 1857 to 1873.

In each edition for 16 years appeared articles written by the very men who had participated in the events that shaped our history. These were no warmed-over, second-hand accounts, but history written by those who made it. Here are the early Texans as the saw themselves and each other. Whatever pride and prejudice may color these accounts, they are original sources for which there is no substitute. Here we can read Sam Houston's own account of the Battle of San Jacinto, the Mexican account of the fall of the Alamo, or the history of the Texas Navy.

Each article gives the reader fresh insight into our historic past. Much of the material had never been reprinted in any form and the original Almanacs are found only among rare book collections of large libraries and universities. Now for the first time will this great wealth of Texas history be available to everyone.
