About Us
Willkommen to Pioneer Museum, a 3.5 acre museum complex located in downtown Fredericksburg, Texas. Owned and operated by the Gillespie County Historical Society, our mission is to teach current and future generations the history, culture, and traditions of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County for the advancement of knowledge and preservation of our proud heritage.
To tell the history of the pioneers, our unique museum features historic homesteads & buildings donated by founding families of Gillespie County. Guests can purchase tickets for a self-guided tour and stroll through our grounds as descendants share stories through audios which play in each building. (Self-guided tours take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.) Among the historic homesteads & buildings are a one-room schoolhouse, a log cabin, a Sunday house, a bath house, a barn, a smokehouse that showcase artifacts and architecture which help to preserve and tell their story. Guests can also browse through our fire department museum which displays pieces of early 20th century firefighting equipment.
